The chapter was founded in 2001, and membership currently is 34.

Meeting Information

Regular meetings are on the third Monday of each month from 10:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., at the Aiken Public Library, 314 Chesterfield Street, S, Aiken, SC.  Handicap accessible .

Programs cover different needlework skills every month, including beading, drawn thread, crazy quilting, huckweaving, Russian punch needle, and retrographics.  The current year's program includes a beaded Santa amulet (with about 12,000 beads), a Santa pin on perforated paper, and a year long mystery band sampler.  Field trips are scheduled periodically.

Membership

Annual dues are $35.00 through September 30, 2005; $40.00 thereafter..

Guests

Guests may visit twice before joining.

Special Interest Groups

Stitch-ins are held monthly at local retirement centers from 10:00 - 12:30 on the first Monday of the month.

Outreach

Pillows for terminally ill children at local hospitals, samplers for new Habitat for Humanity homeowners, teaching needlework once a week at a middle school after school program, and teaching a four week course "Needle arts through the Ages" at the university's Academy of Lifelong Learning Program.  A new project is knitting and crocheting scarves, shawls, and ponchos for the Cumbee Center, a women's shelter.

AIKEN'S STITCHIN' BELLES is published monthly except July and August.  Advertising is $25.00 per 1/4 page per year.
