Teacher:  Debbie Stiehler

EGA Master Craftsman, Canvas Embroidery; NAN Certified,

Level II, Canvas Embroidery.

Design size:  8 ½ " x 10  ½ "

Eight distinct bird houses create a small community for birds of all feathers.  Each house is a unique shape and stitch pattern, and the design uses a variety of threads including cotton, wool, silk, nylon, and linen.  Beautiful floral blooms are reaching up to surround the houses with their fragrant sweetness.  The flowers are stitched in a combination of silk and nylon ribbons using a "non-counted" technique.

Five wonderful birds are resting or in flight in this community.  The basic body of each bird is Ultrasuede that is appliquéd, and then needle “painted” with cotton thread.  Placement of the flowers and birds will be decided by the student.  The garden pictured here has 2 robins, a cardinal, a black bird, and an oriole.

Time will be spent on proper stitching technique as well as composition and care of threads   Stitches covered are: A variety of Gobelins, herringbone, point de tresse, burden variations, trame, basketweave, Smyrna, diagonal woven, buttonhole on a bar, and silk ribbon work techniques.
