Origin |
The logo of the Tryon Chapter
represents Tryon Palace, which was the first permanent capital of the Colony
of North Carolina -- "Where governors ruled,
legislators debated, patriots gathered, and George Washington danced."
It was named for the first Royal Governor, William Tryon. New Bern was
established in 1710.
The logo was drawn by a chapter
member, and is based on an original nametag designed by another chapter
member.

Special Interest Groups |
Stitch-ins are
on the second Monday of the month immediately following the business
meeting, as well as on the second and fourth Mondays in July and August.
Summer 2007 stitch-ins were devoted to
stitching “Kissing Pillows” for the military families at Camp Lejeune. Over
225 pillows were stitched and presented to the Marines.
Summer 2006 stitch-ins
were
devoted to stitching a Christmas ball ornament using a variety of techniques.

Outreach |
Outreach activities include an
"Estate Sale" auction every other June to raise funds for charity.
Tryon Chapter supports the Salvation Army with food and monetary donations
on a quarterly basis, in addition to dressing dolls and Teddy bears for
Christmas gifts. Throughout the year chapter members embroider "doves"
for Hospice with names of persons who died during the year. At the end
of the year the doves are displayed on a Christmas tree in downtown New
Bern, and are then presented to Hospice and the families at a special
memorial service.
