Founded in 1958, EGA is non-profit, educational, charitable,
and non-discriminatory. Its purpose is threefold:
-
To teach embroidery arts.
-
To foster high standards of design,
color, and workmanship in embroidery.
-
To preserve our needle arts
heritage.
Through membership in EGA, stitchers
may avail themselves of opportunities for personal and professional growth in
Correspondence Courses, Research Fellowship Programs, Scholarships, the School of Advanced
Study, Teacher Certification, Graduate Teacher Programs, Judges Certification
Programs, and Master Craftsman Programs. Go to the EGA website through the
link above to learn more about these programs.
Annual membership includes a
quarterly publication,
Needle
Arts. A week-long seminar is held each year
featuring well known national and international teachers offering classes in
every facet of embroidery.
A visit to the
national headquarters at
426 West Jefferson Street, Louisville,
Kentucky, provides visitors with opportunities to browse through the Margaret Parshall Gallery -- with its exhibits of member-stitched needlework -- and
through the Dorothy Babcock Library -- with its extensive selection of books for
lending and reference.
